Birthday; alternative to cakes?

Soon to be my birthday.
Office 'tradition' is cakes for everyone but I'm not a very cakey person.
I've been here since god was a little girl and always complied but I fancy a change.
1. Any ideas on alternatives please?
or
2. Just accept it's what the majority want/expect and buy the darn cakes?

I got some hot sausage rolls from local butcher for elevenses one year.

We had a kitchen at work and two of us who had same birthday did hot bacon rolls and home made flapjack, naughty but went down a storm!

Doughnuts, maybe an old primary school birthday ie lots of crisps and fizzy drinks

Most Asian food stores will do you a big box for a reasonable price, and they'll still be warm. Much nicer than the supermarket attempts.

Do you have access to a grill? I did cheese on toast once, with a selection of toppings, and me as short-order cook, not expensive and went down very well.

It was My Birthday Friday last week I brought in cakes - there where still some left at mid-day a collegue's birthday on Monday and he got Samosas - all gone by 11

Worked in an office with a lass of Indian extraction - she always bought in a huge pile of samosa, pakora etc with variety of dipping sauces from pathetically mild to blow your head off hot (or mild as she called it).

They always disappeared quick but I when you work at a chocolate factory, savoury was always a nice change from sweet.

Pork pies always worked well at one of the sites I used to work at.

You could head more towards the cake theme with large stand pie that can be cut into slices and coated in brown sauce "icing".

You may need to offer an alternative to those who don't eat pork / like pies though... or have more yourself.

you need an Asian sweet centre . soho road handsworth is where I would go . desi sweet centre is the one I use but others re available . last time I bought them they were £18 for 100 .

my sister takes homemade ones into her office . they are gone in minutes
