Where to eat in Bath...

Hi All,

Just looking for a bit of advice - off to Bath on Saturday and was hoping to surprise the GF with a nice meal out. I had planned on Sotto Sotto, but they are fully booked (phoned on Tuesday) and have now dawdled for a couple days looking for somewhere else.

Any recommendations? Not looking for stupidly expensive but if it comes in under £80 with a couple drinks, then that's fine (so mid range).

Not posh but if this weather holds the bath ales steakhouse / pub by the station is nice with the balcony. A stroll through there left me very close to rescinding being veggie

Thanks for the recommendations guys, some really good suggestions.

Have any of you tried La Perla? It's a Spanish Tapas bar with pretty good reviews on TA. My OH loves tapas so could be a winner...

Gotta mention Sally Lunns, very old building friendly staff great food, should be under budget, worth booking ahead though.

Priory is very nice. Only been there once. When they serve the food they have to give you a running commentary of what you have got. I know what it is I only ordered it 10 minutes ago!

It is quite stuck up though. Full of crusty old money types looking down their noses and the odd Hooray.

Hard to say. We went for lunch and it was fairly quiet. If you are upstairs its small so should be full most nights.

It's quite casual though so perhaps better fro lunch than a romantic dinner.

We went to another place very close to it as well but I can't remember the name but will google for it.

I believe I have. I was quite drunk though.

Just nearby is Yak Yeti Yak, which is a Nepalese restaurant. It's good food, not curry hot at all (they will spice it up for you if you ask) and it's a pleasant atmosphere. Have the spiced carrot tartlet for pudding.

Took wor lass there, she loved it. Not posh, but different, quirky and nice.

The white hart is also good (just over river), decent steaks etc. posh pub style, might not be posh enough for you tho?

We thoroughly enjoyed Yak Yeti Yak too. Graze is the Bath Ales / meat fest above the station, nice if a little overpriced. Also a good quirky place is the Cosy Club above the new shooing centre bit (Southgate??).

Take her for a burger at Schwarz Brothers! Joking, tasty as they may be, I suspect that won't get you good brownie points.

I'd avoid Sally Lunns, good for cream tea but I remember being underwhelmed by their normal food choice.

Ha, was going to suggest Schwarz too!

I can't really recommend any now as it's too long since I lived there. The Moon & Sixpence has shut down and that was a default.

Is the Hole in the Wall still open? I used to enjoy that place. (edit - I see it's been taken over by the Stable chain - a pizza and cider house. I'd recommend that as I love the one in Bridport, but not quite fine dining if it is in fact open yet)

The Salamander is supposed to be a good cosy gastropub type place since it was taken over by Bath Ales (who also run Graze), which makes me laugh because I remember a lot of naughty shenanigans there when it was just a dirty old boozer about 15 years ago...
