How much do you spend on lunch?

I was just looking at the frugal living thread and I'm not so much surprised at how cheaply you can make lunch (I know because I do) but shocked at how many people seem to think nothing of spending £7-8 a day on a sandwich and a drink and an additional snack/pot of something.

I am guilty of this. £5, £7 sometimes even £10 on lunch.

I really, really should just bring a packed lunch.

Same here, that or the Asda/Boots/Sainsburys equivalent, depending what's near.

I tend to buy in summer and eat outside, but make something to warm up and have hot in winter - general spend there is probably £2/portion, tops.

Yes, very true here in Italy too, at least near where I work, outskirt of Turin. The places where you can eat here take advantage of the many companies present in this area and keep prices high. Today I spent € 11.20 which translate in £9.63 for a cold plate and a bottle of water in a crowded self service. Ironically in a very nice place in the city centre I could get a better meal for a couple of £ less. I jest came back from India after having been there for over a month for a start of production and I really find everything so much expensive here at home!

Normally a pot of soup/sald for about £2 from the Tesco, rarely over £3 though.

Today however was differant....

Went to JapCan with a friend - £7 for Katsu curry & coke
Then ended going onto the Pavillion End with some work colleagues - £6 for a pint & cheesy chips
Then went to Ye Olde Watling - £3.50 for the pint....

so my lunch today cost £16.50...oops!!! (and so much for the diet...as i'm going for a ruby with my girlfriend later!)

Oh and I'm a cheap bd!

I don't see the point in wasting money on fancy sandwich's during the week, I'd rather spend it on takeaways and decent wine/beer for weekend!

I used to bring it from home but got bored. So now I go out for lunch every day , wastes an hour and gets me out of the office.

In Singapore so around £2.50-3 for soup, chicken/duck/pork with rice/noodles and drink. Already looking forward to lunch on Monday, beats the st out of a Tesco ham & mustard with a packet of walkers!

Its not just lunch, but the whole coffee / breakfast / lunch / snack cost. An average day here (and its not just me, but most of my colleagues also), is;

- £4 breakfast (coffee & croissant)
- £3 morning coffee
- £7 - £10 Lunch (depends where we go)
- £5 pint in the afternoon (not every day obviously)
- £3 coffee in the afternoon
It does add up, but the thought of waking up early to make breakfast and lunch is just to much. Also you can hardly carry all of that every day! For context I tend to leave the house at 5:30 and get home at about 8 – 9 pm. So there is quite a bit of energy needed in that time.

£0.37 on a can of coke
£2 in mars, kit kat and flapjack

I normally have a meal from the canteen at work which is £1.05, however it's closed when I get my break in Wednesdays and Fridays.

You can spend £22 A DAY on food?!

As in, a potential £450 a month?!

Stone me - the skinflint in me just wouldn't be able to handle that..

I eat cereal at home, get coffee from a (free) machine at work and have a packed lunch that I make before I go to bed.

Total Breakfast and lunch cost per week - circa £15, tops.

You want proof? Then ask yourself, what time would you expect to hold a dinner party? Certainly not in the middle of the day...
