Dinner party tomorrow night, one if our friends currently on a restrictive diet,

Going to roast a chicken from our very good butchers but don't want to do the traditional trimmings if roasties and gravy.

Ideas?

Things that ca t be eaten:

Tomatoes
Lemon Juice / citrus juices
Vinegar
Spices in general
Anything with acid (lactic, absorbic, citric etc) in it
Wine (added to food)
Anything with caffeine
Yogurt
Strong cheese
Additives and preservatives

Why do they even bother going out if that's the case?

Stay home, or make gruel and take it with you, rather than expect friends to spoil perfectly good food by not seasoning it appropriately.

If simple things such as pepper, herbs, butter and garlic are out, there's no point in cooking at all.

Are they on this diet for medical reasons. If not tell them to ps off - or give them something to eat but don't serve everyone else the bland crap.

Isn't clear what "additives and preservatives" means, but roast chicken and steamed green veg seem to be "in". Give them that with some dissolved stock cube as a light gravy. I eat that daily when I'm not "daycare".

Very much medical- they aren't the sort to do this for fun

There should be a way to make an interesting meal here

Rub the chook all over with garlic butter (Lescure and fresh new garlic if you can get it) plus some herbs snipped in.

Roast and serve with a green salad.

Do a nice spinach and potato gratin, a bit like this:

Doesn't appear to need any of your restricted list in it, is tasty and sort of provides a creamy sauce of its own. The recipe could definitely use garlic though.

Sautee potatoes flavoursome and only need light seasoning.
