I bought a similar set (includes a bread knife rather than the scissors) for £299.

It's quite useful to have a range of knives for specific jobs, but tbh the one I use 90% of the time is the large chef's knife.

I've a set of 5 unbranded Sabatier knives, and the large chef's knife gets at least 80% of the action. The longest thin one has been used perhaps 10 times in 5 years.

A big set is nice, but 2 or 3 proper doozies are probably more useful, £ for £.

Very nice too, but it carries the signature of a genial psychopath off the telly. Thus relegating it permanently into the naff column.

See Victor Kiam's Remington Fuzz-Away for more details!

you could buy all that lot seperately for similar amount of money if you shop around. in doing this you could get the knives that you want rather than a predefined set. For instance i dont quite see the point in having a very expensive pair of scissors and i would probably choose different knives from the range than the GS5 GS11 and GS38. The price seems about right for the kit if you do want all of them though.

Try a Global first. Please!
They're the marmite of the knife world.
Really weird balance in my opinion & far, far too light & fragile-feeling.

i have a full set of sabatier but they seem to get blunt quickly ( no plastic opening and a wood chopping board) got a kitchen devils knife that sharpens in two shakes of a dogs tail with a kitchen devil sharpener for 6 quid and the knife was about 18.
bought one of them japanese efforts from wing yip in manchester in a rectangular shape ... not for me.
I like a heavy feel and razor sharp ... weirdly i cut my self less with a sharper blade.
I call it the tomato test.... if it can slice a tomato without hacking at it job done !

btw .. are the plastic sharpening jobs better than a steel ?

many thanks noel

Go to Richmond cookshops website and a couple of the knives you would genuinely use daily.

I have a G48 Sanotku and it gets used for pretty much everything in the slicing and dicing dept.

Does need to kept on top of with a Minosharp to be in tip top form though.

I have used Global knives for over twenty years and they are the dogs.... I wouldn't change, I have several separate ones and a set in a block. They are amazingly well ballanced and very very sharp. I use a ceramic steel to keep them in tip top condition. The only down side is I have a stone floor and I recently dropped one on it and the knife shattered frown
