Recommend a Cotswolds pub for lunch
Discussion
Hi all P/H bon Viveurs
I'm picking up a car (seondhand but new to me)
on Saturday from near Tewksbury. Mrs Doc will be coming along for the ride so fancy a nice lunch. We will be cutting diagonally across the Cotswolds on the A46 heading back to Warwick.
Any recommendations?

Hi
I live in cheltenham and work in tewkesbury, however my folks live in the midlands so I am very well travelled in that direction.
What I would politely suggest is: from tewkesbury a better driving experience (particularly in a new car and also if the weather is good) is the fosse way which runs parallel with the a46. It also to my mind offers better pubs as there aren't any I can think of on the a46.
So take the b4077 from the a46 ashchurch roundabout across to stow. You could stop off at The Plough in Ford for lunch, or go over to The Fox in Oddington, or stay on the main road for any of the pubs in stow or moreton in marsh (swan, bell). There is also the halford inn at halford. From here you just drive up the fosse way to leamington, enjoying the countryside and your new car!
The above should give you a lovely run home and much nicer pubs than staying on the a46. I have cycled the fosse from Cirencester to leicester (79 miles!) and it is my favourite road in the uk - I used to drive my Elise down it at midnight with the roof off home from my parents.
