Apples

Just had a lovely crisp Jazz apple and I think it's my new favourite variety, taking the crown from the Royal Gala. Can't stand Granny Smith. Nothing enjoyable about them at all.

What is your favourite sort?

Beauty of Bath.

It's an early dessert apple unobtainable in shops nowadays [sigh] but has a lovely fragrance, and crisp, pink-tinged flesh.

It's supposed to be a particularly good year for apples, bumper crops and full of apply goodness from the warm summer, then again I heard that about strawberries a couple of months ago and they were nothing special.

Pink Lady are by far the best.

Braeburn are decent too.

Braeburn are the standard by which all other apples are judged. There have been a few good new varieties recently, such as Eve and Lemonade, but I still look forward to the first of the braeburns the most.

When I lived in OZ a Johnathan was a great apple but an OZ grown Granny Smith was also great; not like the French grown ones here which seem crisp and juicy but no flavour.
