I made my first batch today and they were nice but not the greatest.

The taste was good but the batter was far too thick.

The only ingredients in my recipe was equal parts of flour and beer.

Has anyone got any really tasty recipes?

Is there anything else I should try frying?

I love onion rings. The best I've ever had over here were chunky (at least 3 rings of onion and thickly cut) and both battered and bread crumbed. lickcloud9

Salt and pepper and a spice or two mixed into the flour might help .

Try adding a bit of cornflour (70g to 200g of normal flour) and 2tbs of white wine vinegar along with the seasoning.

50% corn flour, 50% rice flour.

Light ale, ice cubes in the batter.

Thanks to all for making me even hungrier than I was, and increasing the potential of eating onion rings, copious amounts of, tonight.

Crumbed only for me. I've never yet had a decent battered one - they have always been either too greasy or the onion's evaporated (from a very wide selection of restaurants).

If you want to cheat, get some Aunt Bessie's. They are proper onion rings, unlike most supermarket ones you buy which are re-formed from shredded onion.
