Tescos scan as you shop

Anyone else used this?
Has been available at our local Tesco for a few months now. The wife loved it at first but then made an error scanning what she thought were 2 identical packs of ham (i.e. she scanned the top 1 twice assuming she had picked up 2 packs of the same product). She was selected for a random check where a member of staff rescanned the shopping and the error was discovered. Even though there was no difference in price the system assumed that my wife was trying to pull a fast one and subsequent shopping trips using the scanner always resulted in being referred for manual checking so we no longer bother.Safeway used to do this years ago.. it was called Shop N' Go if I remember.
I was fascinated by it at the time.. it made being dragged round the shop as a young boy seem exciting. I remember they also randomly selected you for everything to be re-scanned like this Tesco scheme.
I don't know for certain why they stopped it - may have been due to the Morrisons takeover or that it wasn't cost effective.

Waitrose had it for ages. Works well, hardly ever get a rescan. You need to be a member to use one, but you get free coffee/tea and deals as well. 10% off all booze currently
We are not members and we use it. We just registered our card and details.

Do they have a coffee machine? Ours is near the customer services part, sometimes they just ask to see the "my waitrose" card. Maybe thats the membership then?
Ours are too, they've just been refurbished so you no longer speak to anyone when you check out which is a bit sad.chockymonster said:

Only ever used it twice, as the local supermarkets don't offer it. Found it took so long to get through the 'checkout' due to being picked for the random check each time, it negated the time saving of doing it all yourself.
Anyway, I thought all products would have RFID tags by now, so your intelligent trolley would tot it all up as you threw stuff in. 'Tomorrow's world' has a lot to answer for.
