Anyone got a basic chineseie sauce recipe that can be made from basics in the storecupboard?

You can make a simple sweet and sour; equal parts water, sugar, vinegar, add some ketchup or tomato puree, bit of soy sauce, bring to the boil and thicken with corn flour solution.
