Morning folks. Scratching around for ideas for Mrs FUBAR's birthday next month and Im thinking a stand mixer as she has always wanted one following on from using her mum's back in the day.
Quite a variation going on in this department. She will more than likely just use it a couple of times a week to make cakes/cupcakes etc (all the stuff Im not allowed to eat!) with our daughter, occasionally making/baking for the cake stand at the school fete etc, so don't 'think' she needs a professional machine and I certainly don't want to go spending £500+ on something that will sit in the cupboard alongside the frikin breadmaker!
Lets go with a budget of up to £250.
Options seem to be from a £50 Breville through a Kenwood Prospero at £150 and on to the lower end Kitchen Aids (and with some leeway on my budget!)
Give me valid reasons why I shouldn't just go for a 1500W Andrew James for circa £80 (and then buy the cakes I like from the local patisserie for the next 2 years
)

) these guys are very good, got a Kitchen Aid mixer from them at a good price.

Kenwood Chef was always the 'go to' brand, but the budget versions dont stack up power wise, and we all know power is everything 
So up the budget a bit. Buy right, buy once. The Kenwood will work out a hell of a lot cheaper than a burnt out and unusable 'premium' alternative that the manufacturers will refuse to replace under warranty after the 3rd identical fault.Edited by Tanguero on Thursday 19th September 16:18

I have the pro chef one as I use it a lot! They vary so look @ the Kenwood site, it has a comparison that tells you what fits what.
Shop around, you can get good deals on them - James bought mine on Black Friday for 1/2 price.

Trust me. A food mixer is not a good "primary" present for any lady. It has to be a secondary follow-up for something that actually she will look forward to. Some romance ?

For me, it was something I'd always wanted, but would never think of buying for myself - no matter that I'd blow the same amount on a night out/pair of shoes/handbag/dress
