A tower based restaurant somewhere nice bonfire night.

I'm appealing to the masses.

I'd like to take Mrs Wildoliver out on bonfire night, to a nice restaurant preferably up a tower with a good view over an attractive city, my first thought was the OXO tower and looking over London.

I'm aiming to make this a special evening and will be planning a nice hotel etc. Too.

Basically I'm just after a nice view over a skyline watching the fireworks, my thought of a restaurant was just that we would be able to eat and watch (and it's quite romantic) but a hotel with a nice view would also be absolutely fine.

I am on a bit of a budget and would certainly want to be doing a hotel/meal for around £300 max, I've looked at Harvey Nicks in the OXO tower and while it stretches my budget it's doable.

Any other suggestions?

Try Sushi Samba in the Heron Tower.

You also have Vertigo 42 but that is more of a Champagne bar but great for the Wow factor again. As is the Sky Lounge in the DoubleTree Hilton at Tower Bridge for an alternative view.

There is a restaurant up the Shard (but the reviews I've seen suggest you'd want to throw yourself off the viewing balcony rather than eat there.)

That's quite a statement. You're reasonably ruggedly handsome, that's a bit niche to consider yourself appealing to the masses I'd say.

Have you been up Heron tower? You can see a LONG way.

I would reccomend Sushi Samba too, good food, they have a terrace too, its also higher than the Shard place, and has 360 views, great stuff. Though I would imagine its full already for that evening, so maybe try Duck and Waffle, which is less spectacular food wise, but just as good on the view, as its the floor above.

Nope, but seeing fireworks from a very long way away doesn't sound a lot of fun. Going up the OXO tower on the other hand....

Blackheath has one of the biggest free displays in London, its epic, there is also handily a nice hotel overlooking the heath

Blackheath itself is small but lovely for a stroll around, also if you walk over the heath and down through Greenwich park you can see the Observatory, Meridian Line and then wonder down into Greenwich itself.

From up there you would see displays from all corners of anything inside the m25.

Oxo tower you would see f all, its not high enough.

The village of Brockham (Surrey) holds one of the largest displays in the South East.

You could stay at the Burford Bridge hotel, and walk up Box Hill for the best views. There will be burger vans and the like up there. Snuggly and romantic.

Hrm. Take her up Box Hill before or after the OXO tower? Decsions, decisions.
You could also have a bash at the shard (floor 69 is one of the viewing platforms).

Primrose Hill is extremely popular on bonfire night....you have a view down across Regents Park and can easily see the Millenium Wheel and the London skyline. It does get pretty busy so there's a good atmosphere.

There are some good restaurants locally....the best one being Odette's which is pretty well known and 2 mins away and has a "celebrity chef" http://www.odettesprimrosehill.com/the-restaurant/

Having said that....I live 2 min walk from Primrose Hill but my favourite thing to do on bonfire night is go to Cleveland Sq in Paddington/Notting Hill http://www.clevelandsquare.org They have a brilliant professional firework display set to classical music....it's a garden square surrounded by white stucco buildings...fantastic atmosphere and great setting. You can go anywhere for dinner from that location afterwards.
