Designer kitchens v culinery expertise?
Discussion
Is there a relationship between the cost designer kitchens versus the quality or frequency of cooking going on in them?
In my experience, based on discussions with friends, colleagues, etc, it seems the more expensive the kitchen, the greater the chance that the height of said designer kitchen owners culinery expertise is warming up a Marks & Spencer meal for 2.
Contrast that with users of more modest kitchens being more likely to shun ready meals and mostly cook from scratch.
Maybe you know different?

We've just had a kitchen "designed" for us. I put designed in inverted commas as it's almost the same as what I came up with on a piece of paper in 30 mins with a tape measure and list of units available. The main difference is that symmetry in the designed one seems to be very important, for looking-at purposes. The symmetry however introduces impracticality and quelle surprise, extra cost. We like cooking and so functionality comes above showing it off to the neighbours, so we'll be going for my design from an online source.
My dad is a kitchen designer and will try and incorporate functionality and a good look too. Though he's been working in the field for years, I guess a lot of newer sales people will just go for aesthetics.
I think one reason may be that people who can afford high end designer kitchens also have a lot less time hence lots of M&S ready meals!

I would agree that the more expensive the kitchen the less it is used. Dont know why but it isn't totally a time thing.
One set of people I know had a fully fitted kitchen which they never used. They had a well kitted out Pantry with more traditional appliances which they used instead.
I wonder if one of the issues is that some of these kitchens are opened up to the rest of the house. Not a problem for me as I over specced the extract system. I've seen loads with systems that wouldn't handle more than the odd smell.

45k and used everyday as a kitchen.
I have a relation with a chocolate box thatched cottage in a famous village and they never use their kitchen as it's on show.
your latter paragraph- didn't actually understand it. I have a relation with a chocolate box thatched cottage in a famous village and they never use their kitchen as it's on show.
Why is their kitchen on show? and why does it stop them using it? this famous village- does it have people wandering around just looking? (it sounds totally alien to me!)
genuine question, not being funny- its a totally unknown situation to me.
