I had an incident with four cans when I was about 17yo with this stuff. The thought of it just makes me want to heave. hurl

Is it just for (stupid) teens and alcoholics?
I doubt teens drink it now.

9%! eek (yes I know there are stronger beers but this one gives me the willies.)

My Dad and Father-in-Law both used to drink the stuff. Some of my Dad's mates made me drink it when I went out with them around my 18th. It killed me. Horrible stuff with a disgusting taste.

When I was a student in Brighton, the speciality of my local dog-on-a-rope pub was 'snakebite' made from a bottle of Special Brew, a bottle of Diamond White, plus a double Pernod and black.

*shudder*

I could only stomach a mouthful when it had spent 30 mins in the freezer. Nasty stuff! Gold Label was very similar in the ming stakes.

I love the stuff...

Special Brew is like four cans in one - mmmm

Port is like four glasses of red wine in one - mmmm

Cigars are live four cigs in one - mmmmm

I have a problem don't I?

Another memory from those stupid days as a 17/18 year old: "What shall we get next round? I know, the strongest beer in the pub, Gold Label! Can you pour a couple into a pint, please?" "No!".

Anyone remember/drink this?

Just as lethal as Special Brew.

You've got me reminiscing now. Sam Smith's Ayingerbrau D-Pils anyone?

A mate of mine used to work for Carlsberg Tetley - seem to recall he mentioned some market research that showed middle aged women were the biggest consumers - they drank it chilled over ice.

Remember waking up in a flat in Ilford after a UK Subs gig at the Lyceum around 1983 with a pounding head caused by Special Brew.

That's all I can think of when I see that stuff.

30 Years later and I can still sense that feeling of horror. frown

Nasty stuff.

Only tried it once. Disgusting taste. If you want strong beer try Whitbreads Gold Label Barley Wine - 10.6% or so.beer

As a student I used to drink only 1 can of this before going out as a cheap loosener, one night it didn't end well, I learnt my lesson and moved on.

First memories of getting pissed involved special brew. Waiting outside the local offy as a 14-15 year old pestering passers by to go in and buy 4 cans.

I remember necking a full can and throwing up into a drain in the train station car park.

Vile stuff.

My dad used to buy slabs of the diddy cans. When I was 16 my first proper girlfriend came to meet the family at a big birthday party and started drinking shandies made with it. I think she made 5 cans before she collapsed, voming in a ditch in the garden!

We were drinking 4 cans a day of this stuff at uni before nights out for about 3 months - the only thing on offer in the offy opposite....

It was mildly preferred to the knockoff Vodka sold in the same place that had *may cause blindness* printed on the bottle....

I've never had it, mainly because it's so bloody expensive! usually seems to be in the region of 7-9 quid for a 4 pack. Surely your discerning tramp is better off buying a few bottles of 3 quid wine instead.

Blimey that's pretty good going. I bet a (big drinking) mate that he couldn't finish 8 cans of Kestrel in something like 8 hours and he failed miserably.

I'd be a bit wobbley after 4.

Believe me we were smashed! We would do the 4 as pre-drinks and were regularly refused entry, amazing how we learned to act sober/the bouncers didn't care!

We were all good on the carlsberg but kestrel made a friend of mine rather violent so we avoided them. We moved onto tenants super/strongbow black a they were cheaper and tased marginally better
