I have the joy of working away in Barrow in Furness for the next 5 days, and was doing some research on places to eat, when I came across this review from trip advisor

"We had family staying in the hotel and we ate here with the kids one night. Staff were lovely and looked after our noisy bunch really well. Food is really posh but with burgers and pizzas for people that want something more normal. I have to say though we've never had a burger come out looking so good. Prices quite good, very busy and good atmosphere."

Nice review etc, but has the definition of posh become someone who eats food that isn't a pizza or burger? Really? The place they are reviewing is a hotel restaurant, that does mains for a tenner. Posh really? - sometimes I feel out of kilter with UK PLC

Some people are fking heathens, let them eat cheap, nasty food and that leaves for fine food for us wealthy PHers!

"posh" can mean so many things.

To the rich/Southern/upperclass stereotypes it can mean "Sourced from sustainable organic rainforests", "hand picked by moonlight", "prepared by a 3 star Michelin chef" etc.

To the poor/northern/chav stereotypes it can mean "served with plates/cutlery", "no ketchup on t'table", "made out of identifiable animal parts"...

To be fair it probably is posh for Barrow...
