The Super Sausage on the A5 near Silverstone

I don't know how they do it for the money.

Took my wife there for her birthday lunch yesterday, 2 meals each consisting of 2 sausages, 2 fried eggs, 3 pieces of bacon (more like thin gammon steaks than rashers) big pile of chips and a single side order of 4 hash browns for a total of £15.30. Perfectly cooked, piping hot, not greasy in any way and good quality ingredients. Superb.

If anyone thinks I'm a bit cheap for taking her there, it's what she wanted, we've both been on strict diets for months, lost a good deal of weight and meals like that were an ample reward and something we have been looking forward to for many weeks.

No connection other than having had a couple of enjoyable visits there.

It's a bit like the Ace cafe of the midlands - every Sunday there's usually a car or bike club run that stops there for brekkie. Usually some nice cars and bikes to look at.

Always stopped off at Super Sausage on the way to the Grand Prix each year, food was good and quick service. Not been in for a while, time for a revisit as I am not too far away.

I was impressed at the size of the plates, which were all well filled. As I remarked at the time if I saw such a plates in a crockery shop I would assume they were for serving vegetables etc rather than for use as individual plates.

Does it still have a Motorsport theme? I seem to recall a lot of the meals were related to Silverstone and Motorsport, I am sure the was a "Formula 1" breakfast which was a plate full of everything.

Mostly the pictures are of motorcycles in races, some american cars too. As for menus, there masses of detail about these on their website.

My mate is one of the best regarded butchers in my area, he has won "best sausage" at the Royal Welsh Show and various other awards. He charges (non trade rates) 40p for very thick cut Bacon and 50p for his best sausages. The rest I'll guess: 26p an Egg, 50p a serving of chips, 15p per hash brown?

Sausages: £2.00
Eggs: £1.04
Bacon: £2.40
Chips: £0.50
Hash Browns: £0.60

Total Ingredients = £6.54, I can certainly see how they do it for that money, never the less, a good cafe deserves all the luck and fortune it gets!

Did this used to be part of a small chain around Northampton?
I opened the Halfords superstore on Weedon Road in about 1984 and I'm sure we went to a few different ones . The slippery sausage I thought was one but they may just have been what we called it!
Breakfast from one of these lunch and skittles in the red rover and then dinner from the up all night Kebab shop those were the days!

The SuperSausage you're probably thinking of is still there on St.Andrew's Road at the back of the station with the lorry park, about 2 mins drive from Halfords.
Not a chain though (as far as I'm aware).
