A kitchen funeral
Discussion
Yes, the day finally came; I had sensed and foreseen it coming for a considerable time, but tried to look away, to not see the inevitable. After 18 years, my non-stick pans were stuck, the lids were going rusty, the lid knobs loose and it was the moment. Pause for reflection; the wonderful (and not so perfect) evenings, gravy as good as it can get and the veg al dente, the company that applauded their stentorian efforts, and their stamina.
so, with great sorrow, into a box they went and the box was put in the car for the funeral march procession to the tip. It was a moment of great gravitas, as I am sure you can understand, but with great reverence the correct section was chosen (general waste - how that hurt!) and the pans so lovingly dropped within to the echoes of "The Last Post" ringing in my ears. This was their Cenotaph. But to pile on the misery, my fish slice is going the same way. I tried to interview it to garner the history of a stoic career, but stoic it remained.
So I ask the assembled brethren, have they suffered the angst I have suffered, have they spent hours lovingly choosing their replacements, most set aside as unworthy? Or does the wife do it all and you don't give a sh it?
