Hi All,

I do this lot's up in Glasgow as I'm a singleton, can cook, can't be bothered to cook at the moment guy.

Always try and be there before the rush, e.g. not long after opening time.

Who else does this ?.

I always have either a Sunday Times (Carvery Day), Daily Mail (Friday Indian Visit) or a Times when no Daily Mail to keep me occupied.

p.s. Favourite spots at the moment :-

Turban Tandoori (Giffnock - Station Road ) - best tandoori mix in Glasgow, amazing food here.
New Turban Tandoori (Giffnock - Eastwood Toll) - excellent king prawns, lamb tikka.
La Fiorentina (Kinning Park, Paisley Road Roll) - superb, consistent, family run for 30 years.
Fenwick Hotel (Fenwick) - Sunday Carvery, haggis, turnip mash starter, carvery = £13 !!!!

Cheers,

Dougie.

On your own? Bit miserable isn't it? Why not start a dining club via Gumtree's community section or on Meetup.com?

Why is it miserable ?

It's not a social occasion for me, just some decent food.

I do this all the time.

Buy latest copy of Economist/Private Eye/Telegraph/good book.

Arrive early. Get nice table, with lots of space since there is only 1 of me.

Spend time eating, drinking, reading and people-watching. Pay and go home.

It is one of the little pleasures in life. You don't have to make conversation while eating, you can order whatever you want, and you can eat at your own pace.

Mainly places like Pizza Hut, local Indian restaurants etc. For high-class places, going with someone is part of the experience, you will not find me sitting on my own in La Gavroche...

The Americans seem to have solo dining sorted, with most restaurants having a bar/counter where you can sit and eat and/or drink without the stigma of being a Billy No Mates. Also the tip-hungry barstaff will also engage you in conversation.

When would you not be able to order what you want or not eat at your own pace?

OP.
I hope you use Toptable to get the best deals that are out there. We recently went here because of Toptable http://www.athenataverna.co.uk/ and it was superb and all at 50% off.

We will go there every time we visit Glasgow, it was that good.

Excellent, used to go to a place called Cafe Sergie but it closed down years ago.

Will try this place soon.

Cheers.

Example, I want dessert, SWMBO doesn't. It isn't nice to make her sit there watching me stuff myself with ice cream so we skip it and go.

Also, I eat quite slowly whereas SWMBO eats like Furious Pete in a hurry. So if we are out together we have to adjust our eating rates in order to finish at something approaching the same time!

When someone else is paying and they order a selection for the whole table to share.

I do this regularly. Some people do find it uncomfortable, I actually prefer it.

Oh no a single person. He's not allowed to have fun and do stuff alone, quick lets try and math him up with other people.

Only when I was away on business, used to take a book with me. At home I usually just get it delivered, that way I can watch TV.

Not a singleton but away constantly for business.

In the uk you are looked at like a loon for eating alone, however in a lot of countries- especially the US/canada - nobody bats an eyelid at it.

Grab a newspaper or magazine, or something on your iPad/tablet, and just zone out.
