I'm sure I have asked before but cannot find the post.

Anyone suggest some suitable music? We are really struggling, use Spotify so pretty much unlimited lost.

Personally I go with BBC live lounge stuff. Up to date contemporary but generally soft and acoustic.

Anyone else got any decent suggestions for day (lively cafe) and evenings (soft and sophisticated).

???

I suppose it depends on the style of restaurant.

Bit "out there" maybe but Café del Mar.
Not that I own a restaurant but if I have a mix of people round for dinner I usually stick this on low in the background. Oddly more or less everyone, from various backgrounds and musical tastes, comment on how they like the music.
What about my food ffs!!! laugh

Very much depends on the restaurant I suppose. You want it to be fairly unintrusive but match the atmosphere

When I was working in a buzzy little bar/restaurant some stalwarts were:

Daytime:

Zero 7
Cinematic Orchestra
Neil Cowley
James Taylor
John Martyn
Nick Drake
Portico Quartet

Evening:

The Complete Introduction To Northern Soul
Fleetwood Mac (Rumours era)
Stevie Wonder
Curtis Mayfield

Saturday/Sunday Brunch

Terry Callier
Tom Waits (the first two of his albums Heart Of Saturday Night and Closing Time)
Calexico
this playlist too http://open.spotify.com/user/winslow100/playlist/7...

Hope you find something helpful on there!

You've got a french bistro right?

Maybe some old french music or perhaps some jazz?

There is a good French singer (whose genre is modern jazz/chanson) called Zaz. Might be worth a listen.

What is your local music scene like? one of my favourite restaurants chose a style of music they wanted to play for each part of the day and then local bands recorded the songs in their own style.
