I have a European friend visiting me shortly who wants to experience an "English ploughman's lunch". So…. where can you go within central london for a decent shot at this classic and where it definitely will not contain a pile of that mixed leaf salad s
te that I know he really hates. Over to you and anyone that says there is no such thing as a ploughman's lunch it was invented by the milk board or whatever will be shot

I think it's one large slice of three different cheeses (from a selection of about 15), then as much pickle and baguette as you want for £10.

I had a ploughmans at a pub/hotel in the cotswolds a few months ago and it was terrible. Everything was small and artistically laid out, very neat and spacious on the slate tile that it came on. Sadly there really wasn't much of it (or a pickled onion) and I was starving afterwards. A ploughmans should be a hearty slab of components with a doorstop of bread.
