I don't use any stock when using the slow cooker for a chicken. Just butter, seasoning and any veg. I give it six hours and although it all falls apart and looks s
t, it tastes great. My favourite way to cook chicken.
Am i being a dumb ass here you say no stock but you still cover with water yes ?

t, it tastes great. My favourite way to cook chicken.Just sit it on a trivet of roughly chunked vegetables and the water in these / the meat itself will be more than enough.

SO. You know you can chuck a shoulder of lamb in the slow cooker, then chuck it in hot oven to "finish" and go brown?
Try the same with a whole chicken. Cook as you prefer whole in the slow cooker - no added liquid, though. Then hot finish in a b
d hot oven for about ten to fifteen minutes. No more else it will dry.
Goes all brown on the outside, hot "poached" chicken on the inside.
I intend to experiment with slow cooking a whole duck next. Hot finish essential for a crispy skin. Will report back...
