G'day PH Foodsters,

I want to take my girlfriend somewhere amazing for her 30th Birthday, i've already secretly booked the day off work for her, its a friday at the end of the month, and we're going to Paris.

I was thinking a tasting menu from a 1 star restaurant, but I have a strange requirement, she doesn't eat fish (but loves meat, everything else). Also it might end up slightly too pricy. I was hoping to spend ~£200 for the meal including drinks.

So on that note, does anyone have any recommendations for this?

You might struggle to get dinner for 2 in a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris all-in for £200. I went a couple of years ago and was gobsmacked by how pricey starred places there are. Think London prices and then double them. I found places with €80 starters...

Lunch is a different matter and you can usually get some good deals.

Les Ombres, proper romantic setting-flew my GF out there for dinner & she's now the wife wink

Having said that, that might not be a selling point but I digress.....

Translates as "the shadows" & each table is solely lit by one small light, the reason being it's a glass restaurant on the roof of a museum next to the Eiffel Tower so that you literally eat right at the corner of it, looking over & up at the tower.

At night it's spectacular & iirc they had a specials menu with X amount of courses for €X, wasn't that expensive.

We thought it was great anyway

As others have said you'll struggle price-wise for the highly rated places - Alain Ducasse has priced things higher & higher...

The bar at the Montparnasse tower is pretty neat as you get great views of the Eiffel Tower & other sights - so has potential as wow-factor.

There were some recent reviews in the gruaniad:
