Double yolk eggs

This morning - as is my wont - I had two eggs for breakfast.
When I cracked them into the pan they were both double yolkers. The perfection of the experience was tarnished by the fact that one of the four broke.
I should add that these were not bought as double yolkers, and the place from where I buy them has only once yielded a double yolker in the 5-6 years I've been buying them there and eating two a day.
According to the internet the odds of an egg having two yolks are ~1/1,000, so having two must be a ~1/1,000,000 probability.
Should I buy a lottery ticket today?

I'm afraid that's not quite right. The odds of a double yolk may be 1000/1 in the general egg laying population of hens, but the eggs would have been collected together and probably came from the same hen. If a hen produces a double yolk, the odds of another egg in the same clutch being a double yolk are vastly reduced.The odds of a double yolk today, and then the next egg you eat is in 6 months time and in a different part of the country is also a double yolk, then that's 1,000,000/1.
So don't bother with the lotto ticket.

Eggs are inspected under a bright lights and the double yolkers are discarded. But iam not 100% sure. This might help in the super market .

It's a bit of a hassle when I'm baking a cake though and just crack the eggs into the bowl. Trying to scoop out one of the yolks isn't easy!
