I know that many new ovens theseday come with a 'grill' - that being the food is heated from the top.

But what about the type of grill you get in comemrcial food palces where the food (i.e chicken) will actually sit on the metal.

I don't suppose any dosmetic cooekrs come like that and you are liable to to get stuff going down between the grill - but is there anything you can do to recreate that style? Bets guess is some contraption that goes over a gas hob which heats ot up but also allwos for juices to het geld in some container.

This looks like what you are after.

I bet a cast iron grill pan would do a better job though. The steak in the pic was obviously not cooked in that pan.

I do have a Geroge Foreman style grill but it doesnt cook the same way as you get in commercial chicken shops.

I think a grill past is probably the closest I will get.

Cast iron grill pan, whack it on full heat until it is smoking (dry) then add seasoned and lightly oiled chicken breasts.

That is probably the closest you will get to a restaurant grill without an open flame or charcoal.

I've a Foreman, and one of these: http://www.lecreuset.co.uk/square-grillits.aspx#.U...

The LeCreuset does a nice job on the high heat stuff mentioned above, but it can be a bugger to clean. Use the Foreman at least once a week, did grilled peppers with lamb sausages on it last night. Not as good as Nando's style grills, but that's what a good gas bbq is for in the summer.

Yeah - anyone else ever heard of these witchcraft "grilling from below" devices that some people have ?

What you want is a Minden Anytime Grill but you might have to buy one in the US and have it sent over

It will do if a steak is done on it.
I've a griddle which sits on the stove (gas). Works very well and can be popped straight in the oven too.
