I pass through Ft William very often, the only beacon of food there is the Mcdonalds 
Honestly, why stay there, have family or business? its a concrete s
t-hole, the views are nice so long as your not actually looking at the dilapidated place. Oban or Ullapool are much nicer to stay and eat at, Mishnish on mull is pretty good. But I suppose if your looking for a munchybox your too far north anyway thats for Glasgow SCUMMM

I have never read about somewhere on the internet, that no matter where he info comes from the place is so universally regarded as a sthole. Only staying there as a base for climbing the Ben and then out into the surrounding area to explore for two days. Landing in Glasgow and then driving across so any tips on the drive would also be appreciated.

It was very nice, setting is very homely. Standard pub grub but it was tasty. Just outside of Fort William.

Glen nevis is a pretty fun wee windy road to drive, follow it down for a bit and you will go over a small bridge which you can stop on the other side and hop out to take a look at a really nice waterfall up close.thole. As for driving up from Glasgow, there are two main routed you can go either via Inverary and Oban or Via Crianlarich-Glenco.
The Inverary route is affected alot by landslide in the valley rest-and-be-thankfull <- that has been an ongoing problem and pain in the ass for people who use that road alot, and also probably a longer journey.
The Crianlarich (A82) route is my preferred option especially as your going to ft william, you can take that and up the way tyndrum, then continue along the A82 through Glenco

and just follow the road onto ft william, job done
There is Roadworks on the A82 at pulpit rock but thats just temporary traffic lights.
The Crianlarich route is very windy and tight for the first 10-15 miles after you take the turn off at tarbert, after that its plain sailing with some decently fast wide roads. Oh also there is the Drovers Inn [PUB] on the way which is over 300 years old at ardlui, it on the road you would be going...
Hmm mabe i should work for the tourist board, instead of planning your trip for you ill just say, take the right hand turn at tarbert and follow the road and you will be there no problem.(well so long as you take a left turn at Crianlarich

Grog and Gruel on the main street seems to get a good write-up.
However, I'd personally recommend the Kingshouse in Glencoe for their venison. Eat at the walkers' bar for that authentic charm, camp across the bridge if you're feeling cheap.
Fort William really is an unfortunate place though, quite grim and it despite its proximity to plenty of outdoor venues it doesn't have the buzz that Aviemore does.

Browns restaurant in the Nevisbank Hotel is really nice, the burgers are excellent. The Grog &Gruel is OK for food but excellent for beer, a good choice of real ales. They have a sister pub in Glen Coe the Clachaig, same menu as the Grog with a nicer outlook
The Moorings Hotel over at Neptune's Staircase is ok.
The Seafood cafe in Ballachulish is superb if you like seafood!

As above Fort William isn't the prettiest of places despite it's lovely location. I've only ever driven through on my way to the Isle of Skye.
There is a Michelin starred restaurant in Inverlochy Castle Hotel, just outside Fort William, but I've never eaten there.
I have eaten at Glengarry Castle Hotel many years ago and had a great meal, at a reasonable price, in a beautiful location. Glengarry Castle is near Invergarry, about a half hour drive North from Fort William.
