Where to buy a proper naan bread other than a takeaway?
Discussion
Although nowhere near the light buttery naans of a proper restaurant, if you go to the bakery aisle of the big supermarkets they often have an alternative to the 'bicycle seat' naans in vac packs. My wife gets a Morrisons one if she knows we're making a curry.
One thing we do to make a supermarket naan slightly better is to spread a light coating of butter on both sides and put it into a really hot oven for a minute or two which improves things slightly (too long and you get naan toast though).

The most authentic I have made are those I cook on the hot-plate of the aga. A propper tandoor will do it better, most ovens can't manage it.
I use 250g strong white flour, 250g plain, 300ml warm water with one tablespoon sugar, one teaspoon salt and a pack of instant yeast. I add caraway seeds and sometimes poppy seeds. Kneed well, rise, kneed, rise, kneed. Roll pieces flat as thin as you can, make finger marks on the dough then cook on the aga plate for about 10s on each side. Brush with butter. Eat. Yum!
A flat dry, heavy griddle plate may work.

I buy naan from my local indian run mini-mart. I usually get a bag of 4 bread in a bag for about £1.30 that has been made in southall or somewhere similar in West London. These have much better texture than the floury vacuum
Pack supermarket ones.
Next is reheating, i cut these in half and put into a flat panini press on max heat for about a minute.
Piping hot with a crispy outside. Perfect!
