Good places for food in London... some advice please

I am in London for the next few days (this is rare for me), and will be working next to Tower Bridge. Which are the best areas to go for food? Nothing too expensive, just normal priced food in places you don't need to book! I know next to nothing about areas of London... Sorry for the extremely basic question.

How about a decent curry in Brick Lane, you'd be spoilt for choice there. Nearest tube Aldgate, one stop away .

Cay Tre for Vietnamese or red dog saloon for nice burgers and chicken wings, pulled pork etc.

China House on Marchmont St does decent Chinese, though somewhat more authentic than usual.

Shoreditch High Street on the Overground is another station close.

For me if you want somewhere traditional, somewhere that little bit different.

E.Pellici in Bethnal Green .. once the haunt of the infamous East End gangsters ... still owned by the same family that opened it in 1900.

A mixture of a greasy fryup and Italian .. The Italian pasta dishes are to die for an all homemade on site.

Quite often celebrities will just walk in.

L Manze in Walthamstow.

Another good and cheap one is "traditional EaST End pie and mash" on the Barking Road between Upton Park and Plaistow

Another proper pie and mash place is opposite Harrow Green in Leytonstone High Road, been there as long as I can remember

The chop house in Bultlers Wharf did a nice lunch when I was on a course at QA at Tower Bridge. If you can get up to Hoxton, RedDog Saloon is tasty, or my new fave is BigEasy in Covent Gardens.

There are some nice places to eat at Butlers Wharf, some are chains such as Browns, but Le Pont de la Tour is the star.

Brick lane is ste to be honest.

Near Tower Bridge - Bodeans (BBQ food) and the Draft House (beer / pubish food) are worth checking out. Otherwise you're pretty central there so can go to most places quite easily.

Brick Lane definitely isn't "st", and I should know having lived there recently. You just need to pick and choose your restaurants carefully, as there are a lot of places that just offer the same old tourist curries at knockdown prices. It's also worth noting that Brick Lane establishments tend to be more Bengali run, so set your expectations accordingly.

As stated, Tayyabs and Lahore Kebab House in Aldgate stand out from the rest head and shoulders. But if you find yourselves on Brick Lane, you could do a lot worse than The Shampan for a decent curry.
