I've already got a weber kettle jobbie which I've had for 10 years or so and its still going strong. Lately I've been thinking of going gas as its a fair bit quicker and easier to use.

Does anyone have a weber spirit with the flavourizer bars? How do they compare to charcoal?

Hi
2 years ago I got a Weber Gas BBQ (Genesis I think but similar to the Spirit?).
I am very pleased .. flavourizer bars do work to some extent, but it will never be as "smokey" as charcoal bbq. For me the big win is the ability to be cooking within 10 minutes .. I still have my proper Charcoal Kettle but probably only use it twice a year when I have time to spend.

Hope this helps

I have just started using a gas BBQ. I have used 'Penroc' coals that impart a smoke flavour, and also make a smoke box with silver foil and fill it with wood chips ( Jack Daniels Barrel wood chips from B and Q). This smokes away slowly and gives great flavour to the meat.

Cheers both

Still undecided though, but edging towards the spirit. I don't think the weathers helping!

Earlier in the year I bought a Spirit E320 and think its awesome! I use it about 3/4 times per week (when its warm/dry enough) and have enjoyed experimenting with smoking and slow cooking which its does very well. Just one tip is stretch to the E320 (rather than E310) if you can as it has enamel coated cast iron bars which get much hotter and are a lot better for cooking on.

I wouldn't go back to a charcoal BBQ now.
