A smoothie maker go mix up veg and fruit (and maybe other things) for healthy shakes.

Views on good/reliable brands/makes?

The only other brand that comes remotely close is blentec, but the vitamix is superior.

Yes they are expensive, but worth it.

Are proper smoothie makers really that much better than a jug blender? Not tried smoothies but the jug blender on my Kenwood Chef does a great job on thick fruity milkshakes.

The big plus is that it's dead easy to clean and you mix the smoothies in their own bottles. If it was one that needed lots of cleaning it would end up unused in a cupboard after a couple of weeks.

Looks good in the kitchen, crushes ice, and the motor has a lifetime guarantee. £200 or so.

I used to have a smoothie maker, now I knock up one daily in a £7.99 currys basics jug type blender, does the job perfectly.

We bought one of those 2 weeks ago and it's great, comes with 2 bottles with lids and is very easy to clean. Just blend it up, screw on the lid and take it with you on the go, for the price it's a steal.

Just bought a no brand glass jugged blender from Morrison's for £15.

At that price, it's almost not worth washing it

Seems to cope well with ice, lime and tequila

I have one of these, put everything in, put it on Smoothie setting and two mins later you're done. It's very powerful.

I've used my twice a day, every day for the last year and it's never let me down, build quality is top notch and looks good in the kitchen as well.

Another vote for the Waring Classic. Looks good, does the job brilliantly, but can be found for around £90 on Amazon. Forget the rest, buy the original.

Missus bought one of these. Very easy to wash, so I use it.

I throw in two bananas, some milk, yoghurt and chocolate.

Don't care if it healthy or not, it's a good energy boost in the morning.

The omniblend is a very respectable alternative to the vitamix. Much cheaper too.

I blitz frozen kiwis and whole apples no problem.

Kale, spinach, apple, frozen kiwi, blueberries and honey.

For those who think it's a pain to wash your blender, bung some water and a bit of washing up liquid in it and turn it on. Does a great job.

Another vote for the Breville Active-Blend that Calibrax posted earlier. Great price in the link too, I remember paying close to £40 before Christmas
