sloppy joe's

cooking sloppy joe's for 6 people tonight, recipe looks very simple (brown minced beef, onions, peppers, add garlic, ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, salt and pepper and simmer for half an hour)

any tips?

i'm thinking chilli might be going in too...

Add some tomato puree and chopped anchovies. Will make it a more "meaty" flavour

Cheers all. Don't get on well with anchovies but went tomato puree and worcestershire sauce instead - seemed to work out pretty well if a bit messy...

Just buy a tin of them, like this one, and chop them up finely. They are salty, so just be sure to taste your dish before adding any other salt!

yeah you're right, worcester sauce does contain anchovies - but it's not fishy. I've heard a few recipes that use anchovies tho and if they melt then that's all good with me - i'll give it a go!

Those anchovies aren't like the ones that you used to get on pizzas. Once added to a dish you don't actually taste them, they're also good with lamb
