Taking a friend in to London to get a bite to eat, but fancy a proper meal that's not silly expensive. Just need somewhere that won't be packed and does nice food.

Any recommendations?

I've used top table a few times. Plenty of nice places on there to book with the £25 quid or so set menu or the option to pay normal prices.

Maze Restaurant is sensible for lunch (circa £40 a head + wine).

I can't recommend Hawksmoor Knightsbridge enough.

The best steak you'll ever eat. End of story.

Great cocktails and wine list too.

A more reasonably priced option than suggestions so far is Maroush on Beauchamp Place. Great Lebanese food. http://www.maroush.com/beauchamp-restaurants

I'm quite a fan of Pierre Koffmann's at The Berkeley. You can easily spend a lot there, but they also do a pre/post theatre menu which is 3 courses for £30, although you do have to eat at 6/6:30 or 9/9:30 and it's a limited menu.
However I've always enjoyed it, and it's nice that you can regularly see Pierre Koffmann around and cooking. He was the first chef to gain 3 michelin stars in the UK after all!
