Bought 3 of these last week as they were reduced at the supermarket and I thought they made quite nice windowsill ornaments at least.

Cooked a small one the other night after advice from online recipes. Peeled, cut into segments, sprinkled with oil, paprika and chilli flakes and roasted in the oven for about 45 mins. It tasted mainly of nothing with a hint of something not that great despite more than one online recipe saying they are so delicious that you don't need to add hardly any flavourings.

Did I do it wrong? Is it worth me trying again with the other two or should I just consign it to my list of non-foods along with quorn, tofu, rice-cakes and that gelatinous seaweed/fungus stuff you get in a Chinese takeaway sometimes?

Good replacement for sweet potato in soup or chop vertically in half and hollow out for rude shape serving bowls

Butternut type of thing?

They make great soup - hint of sweetness that you can match with some spice . Or I cut them in to thin wedges, season and cook in the oven until they crisp up at the edges and caramelise - good healthy alternative to chips with Sunday lunch leftovers.

Wouldn't use them for a dinner party, but they are a good staple, and last well in the fridge.

I made a spaghetti squash before. Cooked it in the oven, and then shredded the inside with a fork. Tasted quite nice. Agree with it being quite bland though.
