I need the name of a curry.

Has a pronounced anise taste, rather like fennel.

Visible black seeds.

I always though star anise and black mustard seeds were ingredients in a properly made vindaloo

Star Anise is very liquorice in flavour, I'm pretty sure it isn't in a vindaloo.

Sounds like a Methi to me, sure it's not fenugreek you're tasting?

Sounds like some sort of achari to me. Suspect the black bits were Nigella seeds (Kalonji)

Achar gosht ? Very strong fennel flavour, made with the indian pickle as a base

I think the black seeds are probably black onion seeds.

Methi is a dish (and nice too!) Might be that?
