Having previously been looking at West Sussex, have also decided to look at The New Forest.
Looking for a recommendation for a nice character pub with rooms and a decent menu.
Any help much appreciated.

I've stayed there, basic but comfortable clean pleasant room and ok ish pub grub but a bit too Weatherspoonish/microwavy - there are nicer places to eat such as the Balmer Lawn Hotel just up the road, or the Pig.

+1 for both. The Very Nice Rooms in The Master Builders are great! Plus you can do the little boat trip after lunch to make some room for dinner.

There's a great pub in my village with a B&B right next door.

And yet another for The Pig. Been 3 times now including our minimoon (hate that word...) and the rooms, food and service have always been top notch.
