Anniversary restaurant recommendations in London...

Hi folks,

It will be 10 years since i met my wife next year and i am after a special restaurant to celebrate this occasion. Price isn’t really an issue. I am looking for something with wow factor, that is formal and will be memorable. We did Rhodes 24 last year and loved that. I was looking at the Shard and the views look impressive but the food seems a bit more normal. Has anyone been to the ‘Aqua Shard’?

Any recommendations?

Stu,

I would not go to Aqua at the shard under any circumstances - great view but inexplicably expensive (and average food) will make you feel ripped off.

If your looking for a view I would go to Galvin at Windows - top of the park lane hilton.

Not London but The Waterside Inn has a great location on the river.
Clos Maggiore is lovely, get a table in the conservatory.

None of the big names I have been to have spectacular venues/views but I'm going for the food so as longs as it's nice I don't care that much. Gordon Ramsay RHR, Dinner, Gavroche, The Dorchester all lovely but nothing special venue wise.

I'm going to Fera at the end of the month for my Anniversary - Simon Rogans new London place, used to be Gordon Ramsays and the room is very impressive.

Well since you said price isn't an issue then try Alain Ducasse or Le Gavroche. Dinner is also superb, but not as quiet/romantic as the other 2 if that's important.

Galvin la Chapelle doesn't have the view but it does have the wow factor inside and the service and food is very good.

Galvin at Windows (like a lot of hotel restaurants) feels a bit businessy more than romantic, but the view is impressive.

La Gavroche is great - seems a bit stuffy on first impressions but the food is amazing and so are the staff, they make you feel a lot more welcome than the formal surroundings would suggest.

I would also consider The Ledbury or Marcus Wearing maybe?

Nice decision to be making though and congrats on the 10 years!

Another for Galvin At Windows....best to do that on a clear day to appreciate the view, or a clear night to see all the twinkling lights of the city.

Petrus is pretty special. I was very impressed with the food, too. Which is a bonus!
Either that or as suggested La Gavroche or if you have just re-mortgaged, The Waterside Inn.

another vote for La Gavroche - no spectacular views but staff and service second to none.

The Ledbury, Hutong at the Shard and Pollen St Social were all excellent in my view.

Would also add that the other restaurants at The Shard get mediocre (at best) reviews. Hutong was excellent and had wonderful views.

Went here for our 20th anniversary a few weeks ago and did the tasting menu and matched wines. Really fantastic and memorable food and wine. Service was excellent-attentive without being over the top. The armrests on our chairs were starting to get a bit worn but that is the only negative thing I can think of.

We also did lunch at The Waterside Inn for my 50th last year and that is also fantastic if you are happy to be outside of central London.

Took my GF to Clos Maggiore, just off Covent Garden a few years back, great atmosphere and sense if occasion in their covered (heated) courtyard and is near plenty of other bits to move on to.

Service staff couldn't do enough and the good was great too!
