Any limits on bringing wine back from France?

My wife has just bought 144 bottles of wine to bring back from France.
I just wanted to check that this amount is ok to bring back for personal consumption.

Yes, it's absolutely fine to bring that amount back for personal consumption. You can bring back whatever you like for personal consumption.

Last time I went was in an mx5 not much room for wine or migrants in that boot! They still checked.

There are no legal restrictions. However, there are 'guidelines', above which you might be asked by an customs officer to justify that it is for personal use only (ie not for commercial use). I think that for wine, it's 120 bottles.

Yes it does provided your not going to be charging people for it. Did the same for my wedding though can't really remember exactly how much we brought back. The back of my Dad's Volvo was pretty full though with wine, Champagne, beer and some spirits. The chap at the French side of the crossing raised his eyebrows when he looked through the rear window of the car but at Dover we didn't get a second look. I'm told it's worth having something with you to prove you're getting married but I wasn't really sure what was needed so didn't bother.
