Hakkasan.

Either nr Tottenham Court road (my pref) or in Mayfair.

I am sure there are others but I have never had a poor meal there, and have had a few top notch ones.

There are specific Dim sum places on Gerrard Street in Soho and the surrounding areas.

Don't book. Just go for an amble until you find one you like.

If you don't like the look of it once you're inside, just go to another.

If you got to the more traditional places in Chinatown, be aware that the majority of them stop serving their dim sum menu after 5pm.

Up in Manchester, we have a few places that do the dim sum trolleys that are wheeled around by the waiters. They go table to table and you just take want you want from them. Amazingly good quality and good value.

Phoenix Palace near Baker Street was my go-to dim sum place with Chinese friends of a sunday. Its pretty awesome. They don't take reservations during Dim Sum time unless a) you're chinese and b) they know you pretty well, so expect a 30 minute wait for a table.

I've been going to Joy King Lau for over 20 years.

It's not much to look at, the waiters are 'typical' in their attitude but the food is excellent. Reasonably priced too. Bill will be in Chinese but the price is so cheap you don't care.

It's not the best but its worth going to for the good atmosphere. Sunday Dim sum - best get there for 1200/1230 and you should get a table in minutes, otherwise form an (dis) orderly queue behind the Chinese who will always get a table first.

Ask for Red Cooked Pork belly with pickles. Not on the menu but they will know what you are after.

If you live in the area and so willing to drive, then the restaurant atatched to the Wing Yip Chinese supermakret at Staples Corner (think it's called the Wing Tai) is worth a try - though get there beyond ~11:30 at a weekend and you'll be queuing for a fair time.
