Anyone tried one. Just bought some in Sainsburys as I've never heard of them. How do I eat it and how do i know it's ripe?

Have them all the time

I usually just slice it across the core, you can eat all but the leafy bit at the top

Generally just eat when slightly soft. If it starts to get black spots its over. For me, too ripe is horrid

Well, I had a go at one this morning.

A bit like underripe melo but with less flavour. There's a good reason apples are more popular. As fruits go, a 4 out of 10.

Sounds like it wasn't ripe. It should be way softer than a melon, a food one is softer than a ripe mango.

For me a good one is 9 out of. 10 on a par with a good mango or hood raspberry.

Surprising fact of the day. A persimmon is a berry as is a watermelon and an orange. A raspberry, a blackberry and a strawberry are not berries!
