Good Restaurant between Epsom and Wimbledon?

Chaps and chapesses,

Anyone have a recommendations for a good restaurant, prefreably on the Epsom -> Wimbledon train line?

I am currently interviewing for the recently vacated position of Mrs9 and last week we went to The Lighthouse in Wimbledon Village, which was good (as it usually is).

I'm looking for something good quality and fairly romantic that serves a nice bottle of red.

We could go further north, into town, but we have South Ken planned next week and it's a school night and I am getting old!

Any inspirational ideas? Will be for Thursday evening.

Does it have to be inbetween? Lawn bistro is pretty decent and has a great wine selection.

There's a few nice restaurants in the centre of Ewell Village (7-8 mins walk from Ewell West station). Il Laghetto I enjoyed.

If you don't mind up-market bar restaurant kind of place there's The Spring which is slightly closer too.

Did that used to be Lydon's (spelling?) - Anywhere in the Village is a good shout.

I noticed there were a few restaurants with good reviews in and around Ewell... I may well take a closer look at those two!

Clapham is a potential but I actually prefer the Village to Clapham, even if it has less to offer. I don't know why but I have an unspecified downer on CJ. Plus, I am feeling somewhat lazy this week and Wimbledon was as far North as I wanted to venture (even if it's only aa few minutes further to Clapham).

Ewell Restaurants, er really? ok for not cooking at home

I booked Lawn Bistro, in the end. Haven't been since it changed hands and wanted to give it a go.

I'm a Wandsworth boy so I know Chez Bruce well but I didn't think we'd get in with 24hrs notice, to be honest.
