We hate marzipan any replacements?
Discussion
Without marzipan the fruit cake would end up causing the white royal icing to discolour, so you need something that will stop that. Fondant/sugarpaste icing would work. It's softer than royal icing so it would provide a good contrast in texture. And you can buy it ready to roll...

You sir, owe me a new laptop, this one is now covered in Red Bull!!
king misery and tears? Don't like marzipan indeed! To the OP, two layers of Fondant will do the job just fine, initial layer to seal the cake (top tip here, get the ready to roll stuff, keep it at room temp so it is nice and pliable and then roll it out on a dusting of icing sugar, dont mess with it too much and dont roll it out too thin. Before applying to the cake use a pastry brush to coat it with shredless marmalade or apricot jam so the it sticks) the second layer will be smooth and good for decorating with royal icing and other Christmas cake things!
I do this every year mine is currently in hiding being basted with plenty of brandy weekly we skip on the nuts and marzipan as we have a nut allergy in the family, dont really miss either in there to be honest and as long as you soak it in enough booze over 5-6 weeks then it will still taste christmasssy!
Fondant Icing will work all well and good as said but you shouldn't cover that cake with it weeks and weeks in advance if it is a rather boozy Christmas cake. The alcohol will cause the sugars in the icing to liquidise and seep out at the base. So if you are going to use this method only ice and decorate it a few days in advance. I've made that mistake

No sorry - not the actual Stollen.
The (presumably) European marzipan they use in it. Its a much more subtle - and almondy, taste than the yellow s
te.

The standard stuff is usually about 24% almonds and has that very synthetic almond essence taste which is just vile.
