Every Friday we take it in turns to provide lunch for the rest of the department (10 people) actually it's more like grazing all day.

I'm leaving at Christmas after 14 years and next Friday is my last ever turn. It's usually bread cheese and cold meat based with other canapé type treats too. I'd like to do something home made that's a bit special, in the past I've done things like sushi (not very popular) and small individual 2-3 bite sandwiches (very popular).

Ant ideas for something special? I don't mind putting in some effort, but preferably not too complicated, needs to be "dry" to be eaten with fingers, meat is good, veggie option too if possible.

What's the make up of your team? Is it all UK people? or some Indian or Chinese or Russian or what?

TBH after 14 years I'd be tempted to go off piste

Salt beef sandwiches. Google "Reuben" sandwiches.

Do a quick dhal for the veggie.

Or if you've got a good southern indian restaurant nearby get them to do a thali.

And I get the hump buying cakes from the bakery once a year for my birthday as opposed to a load of cheap donuts from Sainsbury's; costs me £16!!

I like the look of the Rueben sandwiches, I'd have to do them the night before, so can't do them as the recipes say. Variety of sausage rolls looks good too, I may be able to cook them at work, so they are warm and crispy. Thanks thumbup

At the end of one of my contracts, I bought in a portable induction stove and cooked bacon rolls for everyone. Went down a treat!

Cheesy breadsticks are awesomely simple.
Ready made puff pastry rolled out a bit.over 1/2 of it shovel on grated cheese, a little mustard powder, pepper salt.
Fold over to make a sandwich style.
egg wash.
slice into soldiers and do a twist for fanciness
Shove in over till crispy.
airtight container will keep for a couple of days.
You can also mix it up with other fillings - a thin spread of tomato puree. Crispy bacon.
Really easy stuff.

Check out the 'ethnic' part of the freezer section at Asda for 'Punjabi samosas'. £3.50 or so for 16. These have a flaky/shortcrust type pastry outer and should be baked rather than deep fried.

Feck me they're good. A sort of spicy pea and potato filling. They're imported from India where I'm guessing there's no standardisation in production, so some batches end up spicier than others. Like that's a bad thing smile

People love choice, so let them choose. Tell them they can have whatever they want for lunch on your last day, as long as they cook it and bring it to work themselves. Bingo, job done!
