As long as it fits in the oven, go as big as you can.

The best part is leftovers smile

2kg should do it. I presume there will be pigs in blankets, stuffing, the ham? 4kg of meat is plenty.

Can you even get a turkey that that small? Might have to get a crown.

2kg is hardly worth cooking you need at least 6kg just for visual impact.

We generally get an 8kg one for the 5 of us.

302,500 sq miles

For me id go as small as I could, I'm not a big turkey fan, turkey is very lean and also is very lean so can be dry even if cooked well on the day the left over will be dry. I'd get a nice bit of beef too, more diverse leftovers then smile or you could splash out on a goose instead of the turkey but I think these are a tad expensive.

Sorry I should have said crown a 2kg whole turkey would have been a scraggy thing indeed!

We always get a crown I'm not a fan of Turkey bones and legs.

Seriously? That's bigger than my son by some margin how is that going to fit in an oven? I'd be asking for a custard test I'm afraid as that sounds like BS.

Yea, my dog weights a lot less than that and he'd not fit in my range!

Watched it take two butchers to carry a turkey yesterday. Special order to a local coaching hotel, at a guess it was 35kg+. Looked like a small horse trussed up!

As I watched I was thinking it would just about fit in a G2/1 gas oven if you removed all the racks and put it in the bottom.

Can't see the attraction though. Never going to cook evenly.

For me I've got a 2.5Kg breast brining which I will steam tomorrow and then fast roast for colour on the day. Thats enough for 10+ people with no waste.

Never tried that, how long do you steam it for and how long and how hot in the oven?

I may have miss-sized things this year, just assembled my turducken and even leaving out half the chicken it's 11.5 lb! Hoping I can get that to cook through properly without the turkey drying out, I'm guessing 4-4.5 hours.
