Historical McDonalds pricing.

I'm 35 and I remember being at sixth form college and going to McDonalds for lunch. This was back in 1996 I think. The price of a medium big mac/quarter pounder with cheese meal was £2.88. If you showed your NUS card, you also got a free cheeseburger.

Can anyone remember cheaper pricing in the dim and distant past?

£2.88 for a meal(big mac or qtr pounder) is the lowest I remember from my mcdonalds 'phase' as a teenager.

I think i remember fries at 59 / 79 / 99p.

I also remember a meal being £2.88. Am 35 too!

I remember getting given yellow McDonalds student cards at some point around 1996. I think they gave a meal for £1.99.
We used to try to get from school to Maccys & back in our 20 min morning break. This was in a 1972 VW Beetle Jeans or a 1.3 Mk2 Polo (Breadvan)!

I remember when I was really young (Prob mid eighties), my Dad getting given a free chicken McNugget to try their new curry sauce on. I was properly gutted I didn't get one!

I remember a Big Mac meal being £2.88 too (I'm 36).

We had 'The £10 challenge' in 1993. I was 22, in the Army and could eat for England.

I remember hitting it by eating:

1 x Large Big Mac meal (inc drink).
1 x Large Chicken sandwich meal (inc drink).
2 x 1/4 pounders.
2 x Large Portions of fries.

Couldn't tell you the cost breakdown but it got me over the £10 target :-)

I'm 41 - I worked in McD's 90 - 92 whilst at college, Big Mac meal £1.78 !
Got two warnings whilst there, first for singing like the Swedish chef in the Muppets whilst cooking in the kitchen, then a written warning for telling a new crew member to clean the lift then go upstairs and clean the top lift - he spent a whole shift doing it !

You know, I was just thinking "what would that cost today?" :-)

Thinking back, I didn't go for meals across the board because I didn't think I'd manage 4 large drinks - they were like buckets!

About ten years ago a double sausage mcmuffin was around £1.30? What are they now, nearly £2.00?

i remember eating at mcdonalds in 1984.
No idea of the cost but they they used to have 2 tier pricing for eat in or takeaway across the whole menu
I remember they also used to serve root beer.

Hong Kong is still quite cheap for mcdonalds even now.
Filet of fish about 70p as is a sasusage and egg mcmuffin. Both on the equivalent of their pound menu

I'm not old enough to remember ultra-cheap McDonalds, but I do remember a day some twenty years back when a local McDonalds had a BOGOF on Big Mc sandwiches, the queues were out the door, and there were no restrictions on how many a customer could buy. One bloke paid for 50 sandwiches - a hundred to take home, with the intention of freezing them (the fking tit, I bet that worked well) and they sold out before we got served.

I'm sure the service used to be quicker too, when I were a lad. And maybe in those neon days of quality service, they remembered to purge the fking line on the milkshake machine in between serving different flavours. I hate getting a vanilla milkshake with a big squirt of chocolate or banana in the bottom because they couldn't be arsed to purge it.

According to a calculator based on RPI inflation, what was £2.88 in 1996 is about £4.70 now.

Evil st haha I once made a crew member fill the large salt shakers with those teeny weeny sachets of salt rather than the salt bin, and also made him wear the full oil filtering gear (heavy apron, arm length gloves, visor etc) to go to the bin shed, then locked the back door so he had to return through customer entrance on a packed Saturday afternoon.

Some have an offer of a $1 upgrade to a meal. McSpicy meal for £1.79.
