oh the bliss of secret toast.

You know what it's like early in the morning, when you just get in to bed. Diner feels like ages ago and as you lie there, half asleep, that nagging feeling starts... No, not that one, the food one.
So you tip toe downstairs in the dark, trying not to wake anyone and go to that most wonderful of inventions, the toaster. Late night toast with hot melting butter. It seems almost illicit, indulgent even, but oh so very good.
A guilty pleasure maybe, but oh, so very satisfying.
Up your illicit nighttime sorties. Ignore the subject about boyfriends, this relates to us all

Ah, used to this quite often, especially if I'd had a snifter that night.
Was fine until we got a new toaster. Being as quiet as possible, loaded bread, quietly sliding a butter knife out of the tray, getting plate etc ready, then Beep Beep Beep!!!! The makers of the toaster were taking the piss with the "toast is done" alarm. Due to the noise, first reaction, not sure why now was to reach for it? I then burnt my fingers!
Now I yelled, dropped the toaster onto the tile floor!
Yes, very quiet I was that night.

Sounds like something Nigel Slater would say but substitute toast for a gourmet leftover So you tip toe downstairs in the dark, trying not to wake anyone and go to that most wonderful of inventions, the toaster.
