We moved house last year and have inherited a 3 oven gas Aga in the new place. It's only about 5 years old and all seems to be working OK but just wondering if any other owners out there have taken up the Aga Careplan. Apparently it covers servicing and parts/labour repairs for about £16/mth however not ever owning one before I don't know what the track record of these ovens is like. Is the plan worthwhile or do most people just pay for an annual service and swallow repairs as and when necessary?

We've had a 4 oven Aga for 15 years, it only ever needs an annual service that costs 80 quid , generally parts are cheap but go with an independent specialist that is in your area frequently , only problems are self inflicted ones , forget the service and the Aga goes out and won't relight , curious child "drowning" it whilst trying to see how much steam it could produce...etc

As above, annual service from an independent is about £80 so I wouldn't bother.

+1 for an independent. Make sure the independent knows his AGAs though and has been doing them for years.

AGAs are very simple (perhaps excluding the AIMS ones) and it's only the gas valve that can really go wrong.

We've got a 30a electric Aga - been in the property since 1988 .
In that time it's had 3 controllers, a few sets of elements and at least a dozen circulation fans. I've now mastered the art of replacing these myself (they're about £110 on eBay) in 15 minutes without too many burns.

Cheers guys, done a quick google search and we've got an independent guy in the next village so I'll get him in to do a service and take it from there.
