Thank the lord that Public Health England is keeping us safe because the number of daffodil related deaths is at an all time high. Our ancestors, of course, were mostly decimated when spring onions were introduced because they resemble daffodils so closely, apart from the BRIGHT YELLOW THING AT THE TOP FFS

To be fair, they are actually talking about daffodil bulbs, which do look kinda onion-like...

And also, an incidence of a number of Chinese people becoming ill after eating daffodils, apparently mistaking the stem for some sort of Chinese spring onion.

A friend ended up in hospital after eating some, he is not usually in the kitchen and thought they were onions so put them in a stew,

He will be out in the spring.....

At university at a Black Tie dinner I used a daffodil stalk as a straw for a laugh, used it all evening, the daffs were a table decoration.

I was very ill.

It might have been the 79 pints of lager through, not the daffodil.

The only problem I've ever had eating daffs was being slapped upside the head by a pub landlady who didn't like me eating her table decorations. The flowers are pleasant with a mild onion taste.

Yes, I was painting and used some petrol in a dish, and caught the dog drinking it...
When I yelled, he ran round the room nine times, then dropped to the floor.

As somebody pointed out in a letter to the Telegraph this is the wrong time of year to plant them so why would they be on sale now?

Apparently its not just the bulbs. The letter also asked shops not to sell the cut flowers near the fruit and veg section as people mistook them for food.
