Anybody make beef jerky in a dryer?
Discussion
Decent meat to start - recommend Silverside.
Buy some cider vinegar and some spice. I recommend this : http://www.biltongbox.com/shop/index.php?act=viewP...
Soak in the vinegar, pat dry.
Cover in the spice.
Wait approx three days.
Eat it all in one go.
Wake up in the night gasping for water.

This is how I do it http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I've since purchased a meat slicer and a proper dehydrated which makes things easier, you still never have enough though sadly

That's pretty much exactly what I've just done. But like an idiot not knowing the difference I used onion salt and garlic salt.I've since purchased a meat slicer and a proper dehydrated which makes things easier, you still never have enough though sadly
+1 tbs chilli flake
1tbs cayenne
1tbs chipotle powder.
I'll see what it's like tomorrow. 4 hours in the thing should do. I only had a couple of bits of steak so chopped it into bits and it's in the fridge over night.
Blimey, you need to start buying some bigger chunks of meat - that's about what I have as a pre-jerky appetizer
Marinade it for as long as you can, basically. I use apple cider vinegar and a store-bought seasoning. Get the biggest salt grains you can too, you could grit the paths with the stuff I use.

I havnt been putting any sugar in because I'm trying to stay away from carbs as much as I can.
The first batch tasted great apart from too much salt but I think that was because of the cayenne and chillies. Would probably be a bit boring without those and sugar.
I'm going to experiment with other spices I may put a little agave syrup or honey at some point.

git another lot in as we speak. I'm trying Jamaican jerk and Cajun with a bit of extra chillie.
