Yesterday we went to a little independent brewery event. Now I am not a beer aficionado, though I am sure the satisfying supping noises that came from those trying the brews is evidence of how good it was! No, I am more interested in telling you about the food that was there. It was pizza, from these guys.

It was genuinely the best pizza I have ever had (and I like pizza biggrin). And it was only a Margharita! Beautiful light dough, tasty tomato sauce, big fat leaves of basil and chunks of melted mozzarella. I scoffed a whole 9" pizza to myself and I can only normally eat 2-3 slices of your average commercial ones before my body tells me that is enough.

They cook them fresh in a wood fired oven sat in the back of their 110 Defender (PH link satisfied hehe) The OH had a half and half pepperoni and spicy italian sausage. To quote him "Best pizza ever, no doubt about it. Makes Dominos and stuff seem like Tesco's value pizza made from sawdust and glue".

So if you do have an event that you need catering, give them a go (and send me an invite!)

(Never met them before so no affiliation etc BTW!)

What's your 'best pizza ever' experience?

I really miss living in London and having a multitude of pizza delivery places to choose from, the two round here are awful. frown

Best pizza experience was Pepe's Pizza in Leytonstone (long since gone) in the mid-80s. One of the first places I knew to have a 'rustic' Italian feel in its food and décor. Had candles on the tables stuck in wines bottles. coolhehe Spent lots of Saturday nights in there at the time. smile

The best pizza is always simple. The worst I ever had was from a curry house near me, think it was pepperoni I asked for but when it came it was like the chef had had a dicky tummy resulting in a technicolour boak all over a pizza base. Yellow sweetcorn, green and red peppers, onion, basically every veg they had with some pieces of meat poking through. It went in the bin outside.

Sweetcorn on a pizza ffs. Nearly as bad as pineapple.

So do I, but it's got no place on a pizza.

Absolutely disgusting. Fruit has no business on pizza!

Save your pineapple for dessert. It's delicious.

Fruit is God's little snacking gift, but has no place mixing with 'normal' food. wink

These co's market themselves as potential wedding caterers.

I'm going the informal/unconventional route with ours, would they be good or a bit naff do we think?

We've got a great neopolitan place called Franco Manca just up the road, the queues to get in tell the story. A simple margerita washed down with organic sangiovase is terrific.

From what I understand they need to sell about 40-50 pizzas at an event for it to work. They reckon on about 1.5-2.5 pizzas per person over the course of an evening so you would need min 20 people eating 2.5 pizza each for these guys.

They are well presented and really nice folks. You also get to do a 'try before you book' with them. They mentioned the last couple had 9 pizzas between them on the try out session!

Can't hurt to give 'em a call. smile

Best pizza ever was in a little place in Zurich. Tiny, roastingly hot due to the wood fired oven.

Simple, margarita with strips of veal and some rocket. Or air cured ham and rocket.

Bloody lovely.

Currently planning a complete overhaul of the garden. There will be space for a Primo kamado so I can do low and slow smokes of huge chunks of meat, or throw in some well seasoned sticks for proper pizza.

Bliss. One of my very favourite things.

Kudos

There is one in Westfield Stratford and any time I'm nearby I call in for one. Absolutely fantastic.

Tomato.
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

i had a pizza in a little family run pizza place in Sarlat in the dordoigne, france. it was the early 90s. i can still taste it as a memory. sharp tomato, thin and crispy base. just fantastic.

i have been searching for better since and have always failed.

i shall return one day.

KThat pic on their website reminds me of the episode of Two Greedy Italiians when they made a very simple, high temp pizza.

God now I want one for breakfast.
