Pine nuts- where can you buy them for sensible money?

Hi Folks, trying to source pine nuts without having to pay silly prices, Sainsbury is £2.75 for 100gms (no other Supermarkets nearby)- anyone recommend an online alternative? Don't mind buying a kilo or so.

I buy mine in the supermarket like you seem to have been doing but may I be the first to say I LOVE PINE NUTS ON MY SALADS.

Perhaps try your local Indian grocery shop, they usually have all sorts of nuts, spices etc in bulk packs at low prices.

Costco or Bookers do them in bigger tubs at slightly more sensible prices. A local "ethnic" food shop might be a good shout, I always buy our herbs and spices from a local indian shop and they're a fraction of the prices of supermarkets. Dunno if they do pine nuts though.

Thanks, I think I'll have a wander down to Hounslow and see what I can turn up- the local ethinic independents were my next thought.

Don't think its something you'll easily find in indian grocers, they are not really used in Indian cookery.

Costco is probably best place to buy them, around £17 for a big bag of 700g iirc. Works out cheaper then supermarket.

Yep that's a bit better but not much- £2.43 per 100g vs £2.75. You're right about the Indian grocers, more expensive than Sainsburys. The search continues..

looking about the net...... you'll struggle to beat the supermarket prices...... a lot of online places seem around the £4 mark for 100g


and doing further reading, never know there was so much info about on pine nuts, you want European ones, not Chinese ones due to possible side affects affecting taste buds for days/weeks

They're expensive because pine cones have feck all actual nuts in them.

I buy mine from Lidl. I can't recall how much per 100g, but it just be the cheapest compared to local supermarkets as I recall working out the price a few years back. I've some in the cupboard at home so might be able to give a rough estimate later.

Love them toasted with Rocket, Goats Cheese and a Balsamic Dressing. Quick and easy starter.
