There are no bagels baked on merseyside
New York bagels don't cut it
I'm not sure of demand

I've had an idea

Initially on Saturday and Sunday we offer a authentic state fayre bagel, coffee and pastry delivery service at a time of your choice (smoked salmon, cream cheese, egg n onion, chopped liver, scrambled eggs type fillings)

Bagels are doughy, soft, sesame, poppy and onion

I would expect Sunday morning to be busiest and from this I could ascertain demand for a shop / van even

Thoughts please (hobby biz not needed for hard income but I don't want to lose cash)

When I used to live in Liverpool there used to be a Bagel place on Brunswick Street at the back of India Buildings. Is it not there anymore?

I think that was Bagels Ltd. It just turned into a standard sandwich shop.

Nearest authentic is state fayre Manchester - the guy in Childwall buys from him

Not sure I understand the question... are you looking to resell state fayre bagels or produce your own? If the latter then the investment means you will make a loss if you cant shift a similar volume to them which you aren't going to do through a delivery service.

Buy from them - I see this as a micro franchise for husband and wife to earn money a bit of money of a weekend, just need to prove the concept.

Without wishing to put a downer on the OP, what is the point of a bagel? It's an odd tasting roll with a hole in meaning you get short changed. Why would you want one?

Well you won't know until you try. Questions about storage or what I assume is a product purchased in bulk, equipment, where the food is prepared etc. Biggest killer as I see it would be wastage. Its a perishable product unless they come in frozen?

Its also pretty niche, as a shop they do a lot more than bagels. And I'd forget the coffee element, anyone who likes decent coffee has a machine by now.

Forget premises, rent/rates is a killer. Maybe a stall you can take to different venues each weekend, plenty of food markets full of hungry people on Sundays and then the coffee idea would work as well but a good gas powered espresso machine isn't cheap.

In Dubai, there's lots of people with money and I'm yet to find a decent deli/sandwich place such as you'd get in London, or even a Pret - the stuff in the supermarkets is crap (M&S type stuff is only a dream) and I can't work out why. However, I can't have been the only person to think this and I can only assume that others with far more knowledge have worked out it isn't viable.

I don't mean to piss on your chips (or bagels), but be Devil's Avocado (with prawns and a light citrus mayo filling) and think why.

The area's surrounding State Fayre (Cheetham Hill, Prestwich, Whitefield) are predominantly Jewish. Bagels up to an extent are a Jewish staple. There is a captive market in the Manchester area hence a fair few places doing bagels successfully.

Is there such a densely populated Jewish community in Liverpool?

The one proper bagel shop in Liverpool is rammed on Sunday and sells out by 11am - it's a Sunday thing not a Tuesday thing. A micro biz with the USP that great tasting bagel breakfasts or brunch delivered to your door on Sunday maybe other days.

The Liverpool shop is run by a manc who buys in the morning and drives to Liverpool, been doing it years so must okay but he is a shop, we are a treat luxury delivery service - not the same thing.

Wirral has cash and a lot of quasi jewish types who would appreciate a nice smoked salmon bagel breakfast.

Cooper's Deli in Whitefield buy's their bagels in from somewhere but also do lovely Jewish deli stuff too. On a Sunday, they do an offer of 6 bagels, a pack of smoked salmon, a tub of creamed cheese and a tub of chopped egg for a fiver. Bargainous!

What time would you start and end deliveries? And, how many deliveries per hour can you achieve and at what price?

Forget deliveries IMO. Create a product and set up as cheaply as you can and test the market to see if it exists / if there is a demand for what you're offering. Bolt-on delivery later if it helps you expand.

Would a bagel be too small in terms of value?

If we order a curry, for 2, we would spend about £25.

If I wanted breakfast delivered on a Sunday, I would expect to spend £10 for 2, hardly worth it.
